Curious Canada Jays

Hello! Hello! Welcome to the Sunday Edition. I have a few images from last weekend where I had the privilege to spend a few moments with a pair of Canada Jays. You may remember them as Grey Jays.

There is a group of scientists and taxonomists who just can’t agree on what names to call birds and every year they make changes to the bird names much to the annoyance of birders.

It’s been a while since I’ve made a post about these hardy birds. Canada Jays are of my favourite species of birds to watch. They are curious about humans and have adapted quite well to human activity as anyone who has ever gone camping can attest.

One of the birds sat up in a tree and did a little bit of singing which was quite different from the squawks and whistles I’m used to. The second bird flew out of the dense trees and hopped toward me to get a good look at what I was doing before carrying on with their day.

I’m pretty sure this pair has territory in the area as I have seen a pair of jays along this route a number of times. Hopefully soon I’ll meet their offspring and have a chance to share some pics of their young with you.

Have a great week!
