This week I wanted to share a few images I shot of ravens hanging out in my neighbourhood. We have a few ravens that patrol our dumpsters and harass cats and small dogs during the day. I’m pretty sure that the ravens have divided up the city into their own ‘hoods and disperse into their respective territories in the morning.
Ravens in Yellowknife have a reputation for sitting in the power lines and sometimes getting themselves electrocuted. Rumor has it that the power company keeps a dead raven in their freezer and pulls it out every time there is a power outage. I don’t know if that’s true or not but I have found a few ravens who have met their demise from a live power line accident.
I caught sight of these two from my kitchen window struck by their dark shapes amidst the power, cable and telephone lines. These two love birds lived to see another day in spite of their dangerous courtship.
