Photographing Birds

I’ve been away camping for the past week (did you know the DehCho has a monsoon season?!). While I process the photos from my latest trip, I thought I would share some of my bird images from May.

Getting good pictures of birds is hard. They don’t stay still for long and while they might come to have a quick look at the curious creature with the long eye, birds can be shy and leery of humans.

There are always a few exceptions and in my experience, the Northern Hawk Owl is one bird that could care less what you do. The ones I have photographed are extremely tolerant of me and rarely move from their perch. Common Loons are another bird that seems to have a nonchalant curiosity and often they swim over to get a better look at me before swimming away uninterested.

I find it is the smallest birds that are the most difficult to capture. They are quick and often well camouflaged particularly once the leaves of the trees are out.

With that, I leave you to enjoy the rest of your weekend. Thanks for stopping in and I look forward to sharing more photos with you again next week.
