Out and about in the middle of the day, we were looking for birds and foxes. The foxes have been scare of late because they are busy with their kits in the den. Birds are just beginning to arrive in Yellowknife and it is an exciting time to greet our feathered friends after such a long cold winter.
I was caught off guard by this beauty who stepped out from between some short trees. I never expect to see wolves in the middle of the day and it is rare to encounter one in general as elusive as they are. Wolves are very suspicious of humans and I have never had one get anywhere close to me. They may watch from a distance but often they will watch you carefully until you leave their space. Often they will “disappear” only to be watching you from an area where they are well camouflaged.
While not common around Yellowknife it is a rare thing to spot a wolf. To get a photo of one is just luck! I hope this sighting is a sign of good things to come for the rest of the year.
I hope you enjoy the photos and I’ll be back with another story next week. Take care everyone.
