Parenting in the Wild

As you might already know, I am a single parent to a lovely Inuit boy. This year will mark 5 years since his adoption and it feels like it has just flown by. Parenting is rewarding if you work at it. This week has been rough!
While we all want our kids to behave and do as they are told, there is that inevitable fact that they have to learn to be independent so that when we kick them out of the nest and into the world they will be functioning adults. This balance can be difficult to achieve.
I was reminded of this series of images I took a few years ago that made me laugh. Parenting is hard no matter your species. I share the frustrations and struggles of this vixen as she tries to get one of her kits to “listen”. It’s incredible how often nature can provide you with the perspective you need to solve your own problems if you just pay attention.
So to all the other parents out there who might be dragging their offspring around by the scruff of the neck this week, hang in there. They’ll be out of the den soon enough.
Have a great week!
