Welcome back to the Sunday Edition. This week we had some very cold weather to arrive. It’s been mild and unseasonably warm for November. The drop into our regular temperatures came as a bit of a frigid reminder about the reality of winter north of 60º.
The ravens are the one bird who never appears to be affected by cold temperatures. Juveniles surf and play in the harsh north winds as readily as they do in June. They gather in large numbers at dumpsters and other food sources eating and playing, chattering and snuggling. When the temperatures dip ravens develop a scarf and goggles of frost where their body heat escapes their feathers.
Sometimes if you catch them chattering in just the right light, you can see their breath. That’s all for this week. Thanks for stopping by.
Keep your garbage bags inside until garbage day and we’ll see you here again next week.
