I warned you about all the fox photos, a couple of weeks ago, remember? These young foxes are out putting their hunting skills to the test. While out sketching birds at Willow flats these two curious foxes came over to see what I was up to. Curious as cats they are!
These two were not afraid to come right over and say hello. I discovered later (which I should have already anticipated) was that there had been people here feeding them.
Two weeks after I took these photos a large sign was placed at the Rotary Park trailhead warning people that it is against the law to feed wildlife whether gulls, magpies, or foxes. In this day and age of environmental concerns sadly some people still don’t get it. Every one of our actions have consequences for the environment and the creatures that live in it with us.
I will not start ranting. I love photographing wildlife and while it is nice to photograph animals that are comfortable around humans, I would never trade that ease for an animal’s welfare. These foxes are fully capable of hunting for themselves. I was actually kind of hoping to see this fox nab a duck but instead, it was hunting mice and voles. And quite successfully I might add.
If you see people feeding wild animals, please report it to your local wildlife officer. (end public service announcement) 😉
Have a great week and we’ll see you again next Sunday!
