So far this year I’ve had just one sighting of my Great Grey Owl. It is a little unusual not to see her at least a few times during the spring but our weather has fluctuated wildly this year between sunny warm and melting, and snowing, blowing and freezing.
I happened to sneak out for a quick drive one night in the middle of the week to capture a few images of this beautiful bird hunting along the side of the highway.
She was extremely tolerant of this photographer. I kept my distance and tried not to make too much noise so that she might be able to pinpoint her prey. She made at least one catch while I observed her however she was amongst some pretty thick branches in the shadows so I couldn’t get any photos of her hunting.
I’ll be out bird watching more and more as the weather warms and the birds slowly start making their way back. Hopefully this owl and I will cross paths again soon.
